Description |
The Great Northern Railway drilled an exploratory well into the middle Devonian Prairie Evaporite Formation in Sheridan County, Montana, in conjunction with their potash exploration program. The analyzed core from the potashbearing interval is from a depth of 9,918 to 10,122 feet. Halite is the major mineral in the cored interval, with lesser clay (illite and chlorite and/or kaolinite), sylvite, dolomite, anhydrite, magnesite, and quartz. Two potash-rich intervals were identified, one with a maximum water-soluble-equivalent K2O content of 8.55 percent and the other with a maximum value of 6.96 percent.
